A couple of days before we heard of Xiaomi celebrating its 8th year anniversary soon with Mi 8’s launch. Xiaomi seems to be skipping 7 and going 8, a lucky number in Chinese culture. It is also rumored that Xiaomi will also be debuting its 3D facial recognition (like in the iPhone X) and an in-display fingerprint scanner on their flagship phone.
Xiaomi, known to be one of the biggest phone manufacturers in the world wants to celebrate the success in the market and its eighth-anniversary in a grand way. In a short leaked video, a user with the alleged Xiaomi smartphone was seen unlocking it with his fingerprint, right on display. What made us realize it to be a Xiaomi device is icons from the phone maker’s custom MIUI skin. The video is also a fresh leak as it shows Friday’s date of May 18.
However, we can’t confirm anything yet, but it will be a significant step from Xiaomi to bring on to its latest flagship with an in-display fingerprint scanner as none has offered it yet for public usage. Which means, If Mi 8 comes with the alleged in-display fingerprint scanner, it will be the first device available for purchase.
Xiaomi will still have to verify and officially announce the phone, which will not happen until 23 May. Other rumored specs include the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 8GB of RAM with which it can go on pre-sale on May 27.
Update: However, fresh news has revealed that the company would be launching at an event in Shenzhen, China on May 31. It is likely that the company may also launch Mi Band 3 and some other devices at the event.
