One of the fastest processor that we see powering the top-end flagships- Snapdragon 835 has a successor now. The new Snapdragon 845 is out and the specs put on shame to most of the chipset being used in smartphones today, including Apple’s Bionic A11 which is powering the latest iPhone X. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor is now the fastest and feature-rich mobile platform officially. The processor which is based on ARM architecture is a major step by Qualcomm towards increasing the performance of mobile devices. It not only improves the processing speed but also opens a whole new possibility for smartphones and tablets.
With the release of Snapdragon 845, the first question arises is, whether it is worth to spend the extra bucks on it. The 835 version is working superb on most of the flagships like Google Pixel 2, Oneplus 5T, LG V30 etc. And the mobile chipset market is not less competitive, we have the Honors in home production Kirin, the Exynos processor sporting the beautiful Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, and all time Snapdragon competitor Mediatech. And each of these has the most chipset based on the most advanced architecture available in today’s time.
Also, it provides a much better way to access the cache memory for each core separately. After all, I need my mobile to run as swift a possible and be able to run the most graphic intensive games without any lag. The ARM dynamIQ provides a much efficient and innovative solution for the cluster based multiprocessing. The technology restructures the currently used core designing method. Also, it provides a much better way to access the cache memory for each core separately.
Coming to the side by side comparison of Snapdragon 835 vs Snapdragon 845. Here is a detailed report of both the processors.
Chip | Snapdragon 845 | Snapdragon 835 |
CPU | Octa Core | Octa Core |
4x Kryo 385 Gold Clocked at 2.8GHz | 4x Kryo 280 Gold Clocked at 2.45 GHz
4x Kryo 385 Silver Clocked at 1.8GHz | 4x Kryo 280 Silver Clocked at 1.90 GHz
Cache | 4x256KB L2, 4x128KB L2, 2MB L3 | 2MB L2, 1MB L2 |
Derivative | Cortex A75 | Cortex A73 |
After comparing Snapdragon 845 vs Snapdragon 835, it is pretty clear that the former offers a performance jump due to the better memory management and a significantly higher clock speed. Also, the A75 performs much better on the various benchmark tests. However, we have to wait for some time to see the devices which will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset. The upcoming smartphones which are still in developmental phase would have benefit to test the newly launched chipset.
