I have been an entrepreneur since I was a boy At the age of 10 I did my first deal buying a stack of vintage Marvel comics with borrowed money I made my first $100 million in 2002, from the sale of the Bravo brewery (the beer and alcopops business I had built in Russia) to Heineken With the money I made from that deal, I diversified into telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and banks By 2007 I was on the cover of Forbes as Iceland’s first billionaire When the financial crisis hit in 2008, I was the major shareholder in Iceland’s Landsbanki The resulting fallout left me personally in debt to the tune of €350m In 2014 after refusing to go bankrupt, I succeeded in paying off all of that debt I am now actively investing again in telecoms and pharmaceuticals through my firm, Novator I have been described as an ‘adventure capitalist’ because of my tolerance for risk I believe the best deals come from picking off damaged companies in great countries or great companies in damaged countries
