Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Review

Design test review

Xiaomi has come up with a new series but looks quite familiar. This phone has a look of Xiaomi's earlier phones and also is a global version of Redmi Note 5A and Redmi Note 5A Prime released in China this September. Here I see Xiaomi is compromising with the designs of its phones! Not impressed.

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Review

Performance test review

Redmi Y1 is a good performer with Snapdragon 435 chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz with 8-cores and Adreno 505 GPU under the hood. The app launching was smooth and had a few percent of lag while playing games. But as always, a lot has to be worked on its OS by Xiaomi which makes its phone a little laggy after some hours of heavy use.

Camera test review

A lot more has to be improved with the picture quality of the front camera even in daylight. In low-light, the pictures had a lot of noise. Talking about the rear 13MP camera, it performed decently and did a little better with HDR mode but surely is not a low-light camera. While in daylight you can click some decent photos but you will have to compromise with the noise.

Summary

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is undoubtedly a decent performer and is definitely not a phone for heavy users or multi-tasking. But yes if you are a selfie addict and doesn't play much of games with normal use of phone, this is the phone for you. Xiaomi has always impressed us with the pricing of feature rich phones without compromising with the hardware. Kudos to Xiaomi for that. The Redmi Y1 comes with a value for money price of Rs 8,999 for 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and Rs 10,990 for 4GB RAM + 64GB variant.
